Sds drills

This morning my second aldi/ lidl sds drill stopped hammering. Im currently converting / doing up a barn, so not excessive use, but they do get used. Neither has lasted particularly well, and neither had a lot of use.

What to replace them with, Ive moved over from makitta battery stuff, to milwaukee. Do I go battery brushless or corded. Both are the same price in red, corded or bare battery.

And what brand If Im going corded..opinions

i like bosch if corded use a a bosch sds with rotostop so can do normal drill or sds or with rotostop can do chiseling as well think its a

• BOSCH GBH 2-26 or something like that

bosch or even a wickes drill had them years before they broke

the latest one 15.00 and still going strong only use it for sds drills though does have hammer function just dont use it for that but i have done once or twice light duty

I've had a 110 volt Bosch SDS for over 20 years and it's still going strong, just bought a new 240volt one for the house renovation. £120 odd from Orbital fastenings in Watford.
Edit: looks like it's a GBH 2-26 too!

I still have a makita that was the first power tool I bought while I was at collage, after I left school. It was used to earn beer tokens whilst at collage and is still going strong many years later

I've got an old Bosch SDS still good. I thought about buying newer for the rotation stop facility but can't do it because the old one is still perfect.

Another vote for Bosch corded although my current Dewalt has impressed me.
I have the M12 Milwaukee SDS good bit of kit i use for light duty fixings up to 10mm, nice and light. But personally unless its for odd bits, any prolonged SDS job i always go corded.

Metabo corded would be my first choice. We had a Metabo sds drill where I worked, the same style as those bosch drills & it took serious abuse at work drilling through walls, fitting 20mm rawlbolts in floors plus it was out every weekend on loan for staff for jobs at home. It never gave any problems apart from a new cable now & then.
We eventually bought a bosch as a backup, mainly due to some people returning the borrowed Metabo on Monday. It too gave sterling service though the hammer action wasn't quite as good as the Metabo!

I have an old milwaukee corded 110v which i had for over 10 years, it got used regularly as a light duty breaker due to high force impact and roto stop features. Then a few years ago i bought a 240v bosch sds drill similar to the ones above, its not on the same par with the milwaukee but its still does a really good job as a light duty breaker as well. I dont use it for prolonget times though, i have a 9kg makita sds max drill/breaker for that or a kango big milwaukee breaker for really tough jobs... The big guns dont get used often as the small drills cope so well!

I got a hilti te25 off a mate who repaired it.
Older bit of kit but is solid!!
110v but using a transformer isn't any issue.

I find my battery sds drill drains batteries really quickly

It's handy to use for just a few holes, up a ladder etc. But any more than a few holes or big holes to do I stick with the mains one

Bosch Blue corded. Make sure it has rotostop. Battery ones always let you down just before the work is complete.

Bosch blue pro one is great for the mains option. I have a larger Hilti too and have to say quality seems comparable between the two to me.

That said, I recently got a battery SDS and have been very surprised at the performance it’s faster and more powerful at drilling than my Bosch and the battery life is amazing it also has dampening between the grip and drill a bit like bike rear suspension you can’t feel the sds action which is a little strange at first.

Great bit of kit that! Had one a long time ago which i used daily for years, sold it to a mate whos a plasterer and he abused that drill with a large pallete to mix buckets of plaster and bonding/hardwall. It coped really well for a few years till he's van got broken into! Really tough tools them old hiltis!
