I first heard that in relation to Andrews Liver Salts.
The other one and I can’t recall what it was, probably laxatives
“If you want to go to heaven, take a little dose of seven“

Usually were a few people selling scrumpy at stonehenge. It was all I drank while I was there.

Glastonbury festival in the 90's, that farm shop, which sold 5 litre kegs of scrumpy.

Scrumpy. Hmmm

First pint not right.

Second pint, better.

Third pint, this stuff is good.

And continue.

I stopped drinking scrumpy 20 odd years ago.

I did sterilise the containers etc so fingers crossed no vinegar. (Maybe the odd Horse hair)
Fermentation bucket is one of those industrial food grade things with a screw lid that Ive just left backed off a bit from tight. Didnt have any homebrew yeast but we had a bit of fresh bread yeast left so chucked that in. Its fizzing away nicely and smells ace. I do hope it doesnt lead me back into homebrewing again, it became an obsession haha. If I can save enough plastic pop bottles Ill put it in those with a bit of sugar to give it some fizz

I stayed with a really nice guy called Wolf in Canada that had an orchard small holding. There was a gent who had 8 old top loader washing machines on the back of a lorry that used to tour the local smallholders and process their fruit.

That stuff _is_ lethal - literally.
Heat distillation separates the methanol out from the ethanol.
Freeze distillation removes just the water: concentrating the ethanol AND the methanol.

That's why it makes you sleepy. Good heat still is so much nicer

There were quite a few cider houses round us years ago, was interesting to see the boys from up north drink the first pint & remark bit like water compared to a man's drink (insert one of the northern heavy beers) usually after 3 pints their legs had stopped working then it got really messy

Newton Abbot was the last real cider house I used whilst on holiday in Devon. It had the big barrels with taps on and the cider came out real cloudy (can't remember if it had bits in it as well) not a bad drink (to me) at all, don't know if the place is still there as it was about 35 years ago.

It's still there although I think it's changed hands. I haven't been in there in years. There was a time when the landlord wouldn't allo women more than a half pint glass.

There was a similar place in Gloucester, the County Arms. It mainly sold Taunton ciders but not the stuff you could pick up in a supermarket, this was the stronger draught stuff - some of it was lethal.

I walked into that cider house and asked for 2 pints of scrumpy and the barman said sorry I can only serve your Mrs with a half, I explained that my brother was behind me and the other pint was for him.

I used to drink a fair amount of scrumpy in my 'younger' days - around 40 years ago - and used to get it from a place in Somerset called Rich's Farm. Haven't been there for years now but it's changed a lot and probably not quite so cheap. IIRC it was something like a couple of quid for a gallon including the container, and it was filled when you turned up. Once thinking I was Billy Big ********, thought it would be a good idea to make the ultimate Snakebite - mixing scrumpy with Special Brew! Needless to say, after consuming no more than about a pint, I was so ill I thought I was going to die Thankfully, I'm not so stupid these days.................................

My son went for a interview at Leeds uni, I recall being told at the time that the students union bar sold the most beer of any establishment in UK.

Sound like me I still like beer, but I found that as I've got older, I drink a few pints and I really feel it! I was never one for spirits as I find mixers too sweet, so this year I've got into whisky and bourbon. I drink this either neat or with a couple of drops of water, and now I can have a good drink without feeling cr@p during or after
