Screwfix I'D?

I use Screwfix a lot and order on line (Click & Collect) you always have to have your card that you paid with, put in the machine and verify pin to confirm its you. Most of the time its quite quick, the bit I don't like is you have to join the queue and wait for some so called tradesmen who get to the till and does not know what widget they want. I am one of the so called older people but I am more computer literate and know want I want and order on line, wish everybody would do the same instead of making it up as they arrive in the shop.

As a former banker, all I can say is.....

Bearing in mind this is for work related stock. Better that method than me putting it on my card and having to wait for it to come back.

I recently received a 10% off voucher only valid in person at my local s/f . To save extra traveling I looked up their stock online for a large c/heating radiator but they did not have it in stock. I rang up a call center number (no local number available) to be told they would not be getting it in until it was ordered it and paid for ! the voucher is not valid online.
He said - order it and pay full price online then when it's in stock cancel it, get a refund and buy again it using the voucher !!!!!
Who makes this rubbish up and what a way to run a service.
Local staff are quite helpful though.

I love it when people as organised and efficient as yourself find themselves behind me in the Que .
After the first little grumble my mind goes blank , I forget what I've come in for , can't see the pictures or read the descriptions because I've left me readers at home .
Then I need to see the item I'm about to purchase - might easily need to look at an alternative .
I've seen a few huff and puff themselves right out the door ,

Just a contrasting note... my experience of Screwfix in Ballymena is very positive. They are consistently helpful and seem very willing to deploy common sense.
It might be partly related to the fact that its a small town/rural setting. Nevertheless, well done.

I've never had a problem with click and collect with Screwfix or any other company come to think. My sister works for Screwfix at the head office, so if you do have any complaints and don't want to go direct I can say that members of the forum are having issues.

Cool. Do me a favour and ask what the official instruction to branches regarding ID is please?

Never had a problem either, used them a lot over the last 12 months as we've had an extension built. I only ever take the card I paid on, never been asked for ID yet when I've used click and collect.

I've always been asked for the card I paid with, and photo id if I've not got it. They can be real cretins when it comes to "security". Once got my Mrs to collect something on her way to work that wasn't in stock when I went down and the 17 year old media studies student behind the counter wouldn't let her have it without the card used to buy it, even with photo id - same surname and address. If its a high value item fair enough but for a box of screws?! She kicked off like she does and they gave her the screws in the end.
Bit of common sense helps in these situations!

One Lady who has been at our local screwfix since it opened and has known me since then had to fetch her manager after I had paid via paypal. Given everyones experience it does not surprise me it's hit and miss......but I can't blame them if it's their job on the line to be fair.

One Lady who has been at our local screwfix since it opened and has known me since then had to fetch her manager after I had paid via paypal. Given everyones experience it does not surprise me it's hit and miss......but I can't blame them if it's their job on the line to be fair.

Yes I used Paypal once and you have to take ID, so only use credit for Click and Collect, I think that might be his problem (Paypal)

I'd just say feck it and go to Tool Station. It's across the road from my screw fix and they're nicer to deal with. Much more personable.

She was correct it's easier.....lol its saves her typing to find your account . She just scans your card......I use the key ring version as I always have my car with me....

I must admit, I don't really understand why Screwfix (and, for that matter, the other two well-known tool shops I frequent) insist on having your details before they can sell you anything. Obviously if you're collecting an already paid-for order then that's different, but why do they need your address when you pop in for some bolts or a drillbit?

Stock control.... plus if you had ghd key ring bar code it would be on your keys....hopefully you take more care of them. Lol

B&Q and screwfix are the same firm as well, both are part of kingfisher plc.
I rarely use either of them nowadays, toolstation are streets ahead when it comes to service.

Just tell them to do it as a counter sale. They won't bother asking for your details then.

It has advantages though, its all listed in your order history under your account so easy to either re order something or return it if necessary as the receipt is electronic.

What he said. Right down to the just across the road! I always say that TS is SF but with a sense of humour.

FWIW -The family that started Screwfix sold out to Kingfisher (B&Q etc). Then 4 years later (no doubt minutes after the non-compete ran out!) they started Toolstation. 11 years later in 2012 they sold TS to Travis Perkins - with a much longer non-compete I bet!
