Screwfix I'D?

I ordered some bits from screwfix just before xmas and I got a text the other day to bring photo id when I pick up from the store...... trouble is I paid from my business card which has my business name on it rather than my actual name so does anyone know the procedure of identifying myself when my actual name isn't present?

Just present the card you used to pay for it, shouldn't cause any issues.

Phone up and speak to the manager.

I have this as I dont have photo licence and passport is now out of date.

They gave me the item (I paid via paypal) so could not present card anyway. Lol
But they only gave it me as I threatened to get it from tool station and send the invoice to their head office.

I know of at least two people who cancelled their purchase. One just brought another they had in stock the other said stuff it then as it seems he could not cancel it until he had it and they had no more in stock.

Each assistant varies let alone each store.

Their head office directive IS photo ID or no item. It depends how much common sense the manager has....

I went into Screwfix today because Toolstation didn't have what I wanted.

Gave the paper slip with cat number to counter 'assistant' who sighed and said have you got a card?

Me 'What card', she pointed to a pile of credit type cards with a big square barcode thingy on them laying on the counter,

me 'how do they work then',

her 'Its easier'

me 'yes but how is it easier what do I do?'

Her 'It's easier'

me no response, looking puzzled,

her 'Name?'

me 'how do these cards know who I am?'

her 'name?'

Out of belligerence I gave her my postcode instead, which eventually got her to my name and she gave me a collection number.

Waited about for way too long as only one 'assistant' was picking, he eventually came and called out my first name, not the number.

Presumably a corporate attempt to be friendly, this did not work!

If I pay by paypal they don't ask for any id, if I pay by card they want the card I paid with, I've used my bosses card before with no problems, you just need to know the pin.

Ah, I wanted it delivered to the customers house originally (post hole digging spoons) which would of meant a signature and job done.. but it couldn't arrive before 12pm so I had it directed to the nearest screwfix for pickup,thinking I could just roll up and get it en route.
Il just take a bunch of cards, passports, utility bills and bank statements..........then let them inform me of the one detail I'm missing

If you have a valid passport you will be fine .

With the rest of the stuff and no passport house can show them the transaction in paypal.

I don't think you will have a problem unless you loose the passport and you get a right jobsworth..

I get all that but she seemed comlpetely unable to tell me how my details would get onto the card, I suspect she hadn't been trained in that and just expected all customers to have a card.

Ah I see...they just get up your account and scan the card...this attaches your details to that barcode. It took seconds when I had one.

I've never had a problem with click and collect with Screwfix or any other company come to think. My sister works for Screwfix at the head office, so if you do have any complaints and don't want to go direct I can say that members of the forum are having issues.

I don't have a photo card licence nor valid passport so rang Screwfix HO to see how I could pick up items paid by PAYPAL. They rang through to manager of local store and told him to accept the old passport.

I've got one too, was told it would speed up ordering stuff, since I got it I've never been asked for it again in any branch. I've given up trying to use it as when I present it they look at it like its a slice of bread not a screw fix card and then ask for my postcode and name anyway...

I've always been asked for the card I paid with, and photo id if I've not got it. They can be real cretins when it comes to "security". Once got my Mrs to collect something on her way to work that wasn't in stock when I went down and the 17 year old media studies student behind the counter wouldn't let her have it without the card used to buy it, even with photo id - same surname and address. If its a high value item fair enough but for a box of screws?! She kicked off like she does and they gave her the screws in the end.
Bit of common sense helps in these situations!

I use click & collect as my local branch is literally 5 minutes away so by the time I get there it's ready to collect. I have a trade barcode on my keyring so they just scan it, but I still need card or id depending on how I paid.

The few times i've use click and collect at SF, never been asked for ID, just name and postcode.

Do they give you the option to pay when you collect? That way you wouldn't need ID, just the money. If someone was impersonating you they would have to pay so nobody loses out.
