Screen shade level

Hello.
I have a 250 amp mma welder and 250 amp mig both of which are in regular use. What shade should my welding screen be set at for using them?- screen is adjustable between 9 and 13 (Esab Eyetech) - Thanks, Paul.

I usually have mine on 13.
Welding around 200a+, especially with HF welders.

I have always found this differs between welders, according to the book it should depend on the amperage used but I always liked a lower shade No. than reccommended otherwise I could hardly see anything.
Best to try what suits you, if its too dark you won't see enough, if its too light you will get a lot of glare.

Rich is right, they vary loads. The UV filtering is done by the glass, not the shade of it, that is for anti-glare so it is a comfort/safety thing. You want to see the work but you also need to find the coffee shop at break time.
