Hi,
I've had an R-Tech iMIG 180 machine for a few years now, and decided to get some Argon and an Air Cooled TIG torch with a gas valve to have ago at scratch start TIG (i've only ever done TIG with some 3ph Industrial Machines with HF Start).
The main purpose of this was so i could more neatly weld small parts made from 1.0mm & 1.6mm Stainless Sheet. But when i've got the machine set low (down to 20-35amps) i can't seem to get it to maintain an Arc.
As I nudge the power up a little i get a strange pulsing effect as the arc seems to get stronger and weaker over and over, and if i go up to the point that i get a stable Arc, the powers too high for the thin sheet material.
Is this a limitation of the machine's ability to regulate low power, or am i doing something wrong?
If it is the machine, would something like the R-Tech TIG 160 Analog machine be able to achieve these lower power settings and be stable, as i'm guessing the Inverter part of the machine is going to be fairly similar, just with HF start and some extra options?.
Thanks
Paul
