I dont get the Bridgeport buzz, much like southbends.

A new bridge port was very accurate and nice for fine work.

Remember Everything else is a Bridgeport clone

I agree, but equally we don't call all lathes the Vaucanson

Bridgeports were very adaptable and versatile. When everyone else was using mainly horizontal mills the vertical was a fair bit more usuable. The Beaver mills were supposed to be very good, very heavily built and with better box slideways rather than the dovetail type.

I have a beaver very nice construction. Hopefully get it in to workshop over winter only 3 year delay.

We had one of them ajax jobbies where I worked 30 yrs ago - it didn't like flycutting cast iron, made a fair racket.
Would still like one for fine work though, with dros of course.
