You might be lucky - could be as simple as a blown capacitor.
Our local Machine Mart in Swansea has a returns section at the back - much of the stuff never been used. They often have spare compressor motors and pumps quite a bit cheaper than list.

Was it fixed price or did you pay by weight? I hope they let you check the receiver was empty if the latter!

I see the wire belt guard looks intact.
Many times I see them mangled because the machine tipped over, and the crank could be bent in the process.

bought my twin setup one from a garage scrapyard 75 quid .just required me rewiring it and 1 duff motor

Garage compressor and flogged to death six days per week? Could still be worth a repair.

@roofman ,it could be a good purchase, it's got a cast iron cylinder and no oil has been pouring out of the gasket surfaces, so hasn't been hot, good luck with it

I think a modern tank is more likely to rip open as they are much thinner to start with.

Compressors are usually very simple to fix. For some reason most people can't understand them. Benefits me because they get rid of them for free or cheap.
