Hi all what a beautiful day today spring has well and truly arrived.
I had a bit of a scare in the week with the K&T mill one evening I thought DRO is on its way I would see if I could remove some of the 85thou backlash on the Y feed.On further investigation I discovered a broken cross feed bracket, oh no
did a some research on removing the table feed shaft and the cross feed threaded bar and how to get the cross feed bracket out, after some head scratching and watching a few vids they were out,
man its always scary taking things apart when you know there is no replacement parts available I had it out Tuesday or Wednesday evening not sure its been a stressful week.
With it out on the bench I could see whats whats, missing locating dowel and broken bracket where the bolt goes through allowing the bracket to pivot, right lets give it a clean in the parts washer, disassemble the whole thing and lets see what we can do with it.
Cast iron clean- ish brake so it shouldn't be to difficult, lets grind out a good vee
give it some pre heat and away we go, grind out a few imperfections and re weld and hey presto job done,
panic over slap on some Colchester green I had left over from the lathe paint.
will refit next
