Evening all,
I’m looking for a recommendation for a saw to cut steel up to 50mm at 45 degrees. I was thinking about an abrasive cut off saw.

I’ve got a Metabo abrasive cut off saw, very powerful and can do 45 degrees. I don’t know if they’re all like it but you can only get 45degrees one way and up to 15degrees the other. No problem with box but this can be a pain for angle iron in having to cut the other way round if that makes sense.

Biggest I’ve had in it was a railtrack which it just about went through.

I do envy the clean cuts of a band saw or powered hacksaw.

i bought the biggest Rage metal chop saw, very happy....apart from the craxxpy vice thread....
(soon to be made bigger).....ok at 90 deg but a bit flexy at 45 but does the job tho......
not cheap but neither is keep buying abrasive blades.....and the dust and they don't cut much when they wear down.....
depends on usage really....
would say for £50'ish used get a good used 1....
my old Makita abr/chop saw went for that...well both of them actually....
luckily i have a 12" band saw as well....very handy....

If its for hobby rather than paid work a powered hacksaw is a cheap option.
Cheap in consumables too and leaves a very clean cut.

I’m struggling to find a reasonably priced one in Cornwall. I also have looked at machinery dealers online but they seem overpriced

Whats your budget? when you say 50mm is it box section or solid? I went for a small femi bandsaw which would cut what you need and is super accurate on the mitres. I moved over from the rage chop saw which served me well but the difference in cut precision and quality is night and day.

Been a couple on here recently for a fair price. Worth sticking a wanted up.
I won't tell you what I paid for mine, embarisingly cheap but I was the only bidder.
