Hi there,

I've been looking for a while for a place to supply DRY sanding sheets or rolls that go up to P800. I can't seem to find any Mirka Gold stuff or 3M anywhere or online. Only place that seems to have it is the USA.

Wet/Dry black paper is no problem as everywhere has it, I'm looking for the dry stuff only.

most body shop suppliers with carry aluminium oxide paper but I cant see it going to 800 and as wet n dry is either then what is the difference ? also the finer the grade the quicker it clogs up that's why most fine stuff is best used wet

been a little while sinse i worked in a bodyshop but we had up to 400 in strips then da pads upwards of that

as snooper says its half of what wet n dry is anyway ...

From reading on here it seems that I need to sand my high build primer with 600-800 dry, so I was looking for 600-800 grit dry paper.

How does the half of wet and dry work?

I bought a mirka sanding block and use abranet paper it's available up to p500, I flatted my car with p400 dry and using direct gloss 2k no sanding marks show through, I think if base coat is to be used p500 is more usual, don't think any reason for finer for flatting primer, you can also get hand sanding pads for 150mm dia da sanding pads, these are good as i find used pads from the da are great for small spot sanding.

If you can use it wet or dry, why do some say that dry is roughly equivalent to half wet?

I was looking at the abranet system and it seems good. I also looked at using a hand pad for the 6" DA discs, but I was recommended to use as large block as possible on large flat areas, and the DA pads are too small for this.

have to say abranet is amazing in terms of sanding life. i flatten primer down with the p400 on the really long sheets and a bit will do an entire panel no problems.

you ideally need dust extraction with it but when it clogs the sheet just whip it off shake it and shove it back on and away you go. only downside to the long ones is the cost at £50 a box give or take. the DA pads and smaller squares are much cheaper

I want to get a Durablock set as they have some nice big long sanding blocks, but I cannot find anywhere in the UK that sells adhesive backed paper rolls to stick to the Durablocks.

I'm assuming that the abranet papers can be stuck on any kind of velcro sanding block, which is great as they do them in rolls, but then I need to find a nice long rubber velcro sanding block.

you may have slightly mis understood

wet n dry paper you want to be using 600-800 (used dry its still 600-800)

Is there anywhere where I can get long dry adhesive strips to fit my Durablocks?

most places use velcro

Any recommendations for a long rubber velcro sanding block? Must be rigid by still a bit flexible like a Durablock

Seems that Durablock do a hook and loop version of their blocks:

I used abranet 70 x 198 they also do 70 x 420, I found I only used long blocks for flatting filler and that was with p80 or p240, when I was flatting primer the shape was already there so the 70 x 198 was more than big enough, can't see any reason to use large blocks with finer paper as i was only flatting the orange peel from the primer. It should already be flat and of correct shape before high build is applied. I really can't see any advantage with large blocks at this stage.

Mirka do a long block to suit Abranet. As Daz said, big blocks are really for filler work.
