Sanding Glass

Glass top patio table got scratched to pieces during a recent house move. I'm thinking to either try sanding and polishing it (already got felt wheel and cerium oxide) or sanding and spraying it. Any advice on sanding glass - will P240 on a DA even touch it?

Hello Richie,

silicon carbide paper (wet and dry) will do it but slowly I would guess, but aluminium oxide won't?

Not sure if velcro sanding discs are silicon carbide. I'd imagine as they are not intended to get wet they are alu oxide?

Flapdisk, that kit looks good but a 2 inch disc would take hours to cover the table! I found this, but it's almost as expensive as the table and chairs cost lol

And I don't need half of it. Maybe I can just take a guess what Abranet discs they are supplying...

sandblast it using kiln dried sand if your painting it and it will give a good fine key

make a stencil and either sand blast a pattern or use a spray glass etch and make a feature out of it

Could not claim for damages on the firm that moved you? either that or replace the glass?

Could you not take the glass out, flip it over and refit ?

glass is terrible to polish back up without the right gear, just price up a new piece of safety glass

Flapdisk are your discs labelled with a P grade?

Table has fitted edging and I don't think it can be flipped due to the way the legs are fixed.

Sandblasting is not something I had considered although I do have a recirculating spot blaster gun I've never used. I guess the 80 grit alu oxide powder I've got would be no good and I'd have to use kiln dried sand?
