I've only ever had one flex fail internally/invisibly, on an angle grinder that had dozens of hours of use on it.There is a melt mark on the flex, but it doesn't go through to metal.
Irrelevant, regarding my post. Flex conductors can easily break. There was no mention of the plug being of a moulded-on variety. The cable clamps, in the plug, are often a weak area. I always check the socket, then the fuse, then the power to the machine - all before investigating internal fuses, door switches (unlikely in this case) and any other easy options. No power at all at the machine likely means the supply has failed.
This combi has a moulded on plug, but seeing as I have a ten days until the repair guys comes out I may as well eliminate any possible simple issues, by pulling the back off and checking a few things.
