Had a salesman round today (welding/fabrication equiptment specialists)
They have started to do a line in hand tools, amongst their brands, they have Britool, Facom, Sealey and Silverline....

"Yeah, the silverline spanners are good quality, really nice, like the sealey ones"



Hes a good bloke, but i think it best he sticks to plasma cutters and welders

Funny you should say that, we had the horrible sweaty nasty salesman round today peddling his ****e. All the lads hate him with a passion.
I made the mistake of asking him about prices for new welding sets. 5 calls on my mobile today from him - whilst i'm in the middle of grinding off 40 splice plates i had welded to the wrong side of a beam. 20 tacked and 20 full FW before i twigged. Too busy doing everyone elses work that they had ballsed up. Should never have got out of bed today i think.

Next he will be selling SIP as good fabricator's machines.

Hes good as gold really, knows his stuff when it comes to what he specialises in, and always a good laugh!

Nowt's free! He's probably right about the Silverline being the same as Sealey (think they all source from the same factory, even some of the quality brands ) but he's only doing his job. I do feel for Sales Reps, they are under enormous pressure to meet sales targets & it cannot be easy with the huge choice of stuff on the market. A lot of em talk s**te & would sell their own Grandmother but, as I said, are just doing what they get paid to do.

The sealey premier range of spanners, aren't to bad, Certainly ok for a bit of heavy Diy use or light professional use. Like most of the stuff though it isn't best quality

I gauge the quality of spanners on how long they are used before they break whilst restoring my manta.
So far silverline has a personal best of about 5 minutes
40 year old ones got from my grandad are still going strong.
All together now "they don't make em like they used to "!
Halfords pro are also appearing indestructable so far.

Yep the seally premier one's arnt bad, Again how much use have you got for em, I would never spend £100s on snap on etc, because Im bloady careless with em, and normaly lose them before there broke... plus like many things here there a fraction of the price in the USA, and with a week exchange rate why are they not tumbleing in price, Hmmm overcharged for gear here never

Maybe they've changed within the last year, but I used to work at a tools stockist and I found the silverline spanners very uncomy to use when I had to assemble items. They're just too thin.
