As another left hander I've never had a problem using grinders (or any other tool either). I do have one fitted with a knuckle guard which is useful when working in awkward positions
I've also turned the body on this one so that the switch is on the top instead of the left hand side

-the only bother I have is -with petrol hedge cutter and a stihlsaw. the cutter exhausts in my face and the arm and pulley on -saw restricts the view of the cutting disk

There will be no punch up,
Looking at your disc I would say as others have that the workpiece had some vibration, I've seen it many times and it doesn't take much to wreck a disc, long cuts on thin sheet can be a problem, clamp it down at each end and the middle is still loose enough to vibrate enough to cause the disc to turn to dust.

I was just looking at the blue spot discs on the bay then came on here and read this so what 41/2 inch disc would you all recommend

learn to swap hands then. It's not that hard to do once you're used to it. Got to be safer than trying to use a tool designed for right handed use in an unsafe manner, or replace the tool with something you can operate easily with your favoured hand.

I'm ok using my left hand thanks. That's MY dominant hand.
I does seem that a lot of left handed people are having trouble with tools designed for right handers,
I would say a large amount of people in the construction industry, arts and other skilled manual jobs are lefties and being as left handed people tend to be more artistic and good at 3D perception, design etc I would think the manufacturers would take better consideration over critical things like switches and locking buttons, what if I had an accident caused by the locking button getting pushed in inadvertently? Could I sue them? Hmmmm

Yes they are and it's a pain in the backside if you get behind them in the queue when signing toolbox talks/briefings on site

I am right handed and actively try to swap to my left on non critical work or when I can afford the extra time. Seems good policy to me to be able to use either hand to good effect, though I'm no where near proficient with my left, its a work in progress.

Per others, looks like the work grabbed, even more exciting on a 9" with a newish disc, happened to me the other day but I survived, and the disc only took a moment of light cutting to return to being round again

That disk has been abused, I know cause I've done the same. I've gone though hundreds of cheap and nasty thin 125 mm disks that cost 14 p each, and never had one fail.

Interesting, I am mainly right handed but also try to use my left a lot as its usefull when cutting hedges, getting a nail in awkward places etc. my father got me into that at he was left handed and showed many times working it has advantages.
If you think about it, modern car on the motorway, lets say legal limit changing lanes looking in the mirrors, how many right handed people look down to find the gearlever(and the majority are right handers) to put it into overdrive....not one, I really take on the point of someone who is left handed re the trigger locks and the like, darn thats not on when you think it through.
Love the knuckle gaurd hope you dont mind if I copy that.
I was lucky (?) a few years back nearly lost top of finger with grinder, some one stopped me working ,grinder off slowing down they walked away, unwittingly I had rotated the grinder in my right hand ,left hand down to grab handle, finger went between the disc and gaurd, I had to keep dead still while it came to a stop cutting through my finger nail then flesh and started on the bone.I knew if I moved finger top would be gone. darn that hurt. hospital sorted it,just slight scar at bottom of fingernail.that smarted.

thats my point, they are changing gear with their left ! without even giving it a thought, so you can train yourself to be left handed, albeit not as good as dominant right.
my dad was luckiest he could use both equally no matter what job.

I'm left handed and took to driving left hand cars on other side of the road without much -bother using right hand for gear change

bluespot disks are fine, i've had a few go pop when being abused but tbh i thought they took abuse very very well, better than some of the more expensive disks in fact.
