I often buy low quantities on fleabay for the same reason....I'd rather have 6 of something for £2 than have 100 for £10 just because I know they'll need to be stored!

See, I'm the opposite - I'd rather have the 100 for £10 on the grounds that I'm never going to need to buy another!

Had this problem on a smaller scale a while ago.
any tins of miscellaneous unsorted screws/nails/bits of **** got unceremoniously dumped.
the large rats nest of leads I had got sorted out . whizzed any old phone stuff for phones I no longer had, and a load of laptop wall warts got dumped.
Ive now got a tidy bag of leads I wont use, power supplies, I wont use, etc...

couldnt bring myself to whizz the biscuit tin of blue aircraft rivets Ive had for 30 odd years and never used.

kept all the BA and UNC fasteners I got from the stores 30 odd years ago when they became obselete, and have used about 10 of in that time.

Had to stop myself from delving into a skip at work last week to fish out a quarter of a roll of armoured twin and earth that Ill never use.

didnt touch the box of spare mini bits and escort bits that I probably won't use.
didnt touch the boxes and boxes of radio and TV valves Ill never use and nobody else wants.

etc.

It isnt easy, and I still havent inventoried all the expensive stuff, lathes tooling ham radio sets etc...

I had thought about that but theyve made it very awkward to get a scrap chit nowadays so I lef it there

Don't get me wrong, if I had infinite storage I'd basically buy tons of stuff and keep the lot. But the way I look at it....if I can keep the junk low it means I have more room for other tools and projects.

Maybe I just need to move house and get somewhere with more space that I can fill with more stuff

@Blackolive send all your old valves to the National Computer Museum at Bletchley Park. They test them all. What they can't use, they swap at radio club meets for others more suitable. A few years ago, they put out a request on Radio 4. I was able to give them about 30.
