I know Saab is no more, not a problem in itself as parts etc are very much available.
Obviously I'm buying a very SH one so depreciation isn't an issue.
The issue seems to be engine choice. I've seen that the 2.2 is everything from an Isuzu to a Fiat unit and seems to be the least liked unit.
So is one of the 1.9's the one to go for ?
Would love a classic Saab but I need a daily driver that will endure hard use and many miles ! My late father had a '73 95, in that strange olive green and I loved it !
I need to get to the bottom of this engine issue though, as in, which is the engine to go for ? I know that although basically a Vectra platform Saab, as was their way, changed so much that it became a Saab. I like the looks and the quirks and fundamentally I don't think they are any better or worse than most other cars. It's certainly going to be better than my old Xantia !
The V4s were Ford ?Yes? The strokers were DKW (Auto-Union)
Cannot help on current stuff, my 89VWLT is a straight 6 diesel also fitted to Volvos, so I wish you luck and, ultimately, enjoyment of whichever you choose.
A mate just scraped a saab. forget the model or the age for that matter, but it ran like a train. Although it was a little thirsty. Built like Brick ****e houses
German Ford I think, Taunus V4. Funny thing, I've just realised, he had a Ford Corsair with a V4 too !! V4's are quite a rare engine, only other I know of in a car was Lancia.
I was talking to an old friend a while back and asked her what she was driving , she told me she had been lent a new (2005 ish) saab , first evening she drove it the engine ate itself, this surprised me, i always thought saabs were bulletproof.
Have you looked at volvos ?
