I'm no expert but I wouldn't even want one as a gift - especially second-hand. So many people have trouble with them.
Find another £185 and buy a brand spanking portamig that actually works and has great back up service anyway.
The picture is of a new one have you seen the actual model? prone to transformers going when they come in for repair the lads toss a coin to see who is going to get the short straw
I notice they have just dropped the Transformer warranty from 5 to 3 years (and parts warranty from 2 to 1 year). Not had any transformers go but plenty of circuit board problems!
The wire feed on the Ideals is far superior than the other models in the SIP range but I've still had one or two problems with those (magnetic armature shattering).
