Rusty plughole (not a euphemism)

I do a lot of work on rusty cars, which inevitably means I end up showering off after work and emptying a pile of rust and dust out of my hair, bum crack and various creases.

We have a shower in a bath, and the bath drains fine, but the plughole itself is mounted through the base of the bath and sits slightly proud where it clamps down. This means there is always a little bit of water sitting there which doesn't drain away. Due to the aforementioned rust I get rid of, some of this gets trapped there, and now we are slowly getting rust on the bath and plughole.

I need to pull the drain off the bath and give it a good clean up, but I wondered if there was a type of plughole which is more flush fitting, so wouldn't leave you with this bit of water in there all the time.

As a bunch of people with dirty jobs or habits hobbies, I was hoping someone might have solved this problem, and be able to advise me on how I can avoid having to be hosed off before I come in the house, which is probably the next option...

must be dry replace washer with silicone it will sit a bit more flusher with the bath

silicone the washer silicone the bath washer holder black part mostly last of all silicone thread and top of the nut as you screw it on

one thing with baths and sinks enough silicone in the right places stops leaks

the wiorst one being thread where water can get between the washer and thread

We discussed this, but it is a metal bath, so you would never get it out again!

Good idea on removing the washer to drop it down a touch more, that will definitely help.

Re: the brown bathroom unit, my house was mental enough when we moved in, and the bathroom suite was about the only thing which was a normal colour!

I still have an avocado green bathroom suite it was in the house when we moved in 10 year's ago and I've never got round to changing it. It's kind of grown on me now.

we have a good soloution for that either silicone or decoraters filla is really good for it

If you're thinking of changing the draina nyway why not try drying the water with paper towels and giving it a good squirt with iron out? It's the stuff that gets rid of brake disc dust from car wheels. It's a few quid to buy but then you can use it on your car wheels

I can’t say I’ve ever noticed rusty bungs holes in over 50 years of dirty work , I must have a good cleaner?? but don’t tell her I said so

Not something @Parm would condone but if its that bad I blast myself/clothes off with an air line before going indoors.

I take the top layer off when we've been cutting and splitting but I still leave a trail from my socks, how does it always get into the boots ?

If abrasives made it down there they certainly wouldn’t still be there when I got home, couldn’t be walking about with that in my kegs

I used to rinse the bath out and a quick whiz round the plug hole with the nail brush. Never had the rust problem.

Don't forget the rusty bits that are also going into your washing machine.
Mate worked at a firm that made bricks for storage heaters which had metal particle in them. After ruining one washing machine he then started cleaning his work clothes and overalls in a Dolly tub - really

If you were posh you'd get out the bath for a whiz, I often have one while I shower though cos I'm saving the planet.
