I've been given some old micrometers and a verynear height gauge which are rusty, normally i would rub with scourer pad and light oil any better ideas to keep the scales?
Bilt Hamber do an excellent rust remover [by immersion] called, I think, Deox. You could e-mail them to see if it's suitable for your needs, they're very helpful.
mic spaners are used to adjust the anvil (fixed part) to reset 0.....and ca be used on thimble although i've never adjusted the thimble on anything....
i realy think u should shell out and buy sum decent measuring gear for that lathe gav ive chucked better away .have a punt on ebay i got a nearly new starret metric dti gauge for 7 quid. just bide your time things will turn up
I was quite impressed with Gibbs brand spray, i de rusted some chome plated junk with a squirt of that an some fine scotchbrite. Lent it to me my Grandad now for him to try on his model beam engines.
I have a decent 0-1" mic ,few digicalipers which is normally enough for what i do ,be a shame to chuck the height gauge though,if nothing else i will use it as a tool height setting gauge ,rather than using the tailstop...so still would like to try and clean ,
