It was just a bead on the surface. I'm reasonably confident I could do a butt join based on my exerience with the thin sheet in the "0.8mm" arc thread. But because it would take a lot of cutting and alignment, I can't be bothered for this bit of scrap metal. I hope my "R&D" will prove useful when the time comes to work on a car.

Jenolite is phosphoric acid not oxcalic. I used phosphoric for etching steel and it was the recomended pre wash for steel panels prior to painting. All bodyshops used to have skips of panels, someone in Crawley used to make his living driving round collecting panels from the skips and flogging them. I was never a fan of joddeling makes working the sheet metal harder and i am pretty **** at panel work and need it to be as easy as possible. Sykes pickavant and churchill made joddeling tools, to get a neat curve you really need to do them on a bead roller. Try leaving a consistant small gap between panels/patches and weld pretty quickly.
