Yep just hose it off, as far as I know no environmental issues which you might get from using acid, never tried it on brass or copper.
Buy molasses its about £8 for 4 litres it's as native as treacle its usually used as an additive in animal feed so any equine or agricultural shop will sell it.
Trying to think now if we have any supplier of that ilk locally. Btw, how bad is the smell from the stuff after it's been in use a few days? I've seen vague reference saying that it's anywhere from notable to smelling of vomit.
