rust proofing between citric acid, and paint booth.

i have a lot of stuff I'm de-rusting in a big tank of citric acid -
half a dozen small planes.
4 vices.
about 60 horseshoes.
about half a kilometer of bike chain.
a couple of hundred bike sprockets.

I've started to remove them from the acid, quick dunk in bicarb, rinse off, wire brush.
then hung on wire ready to paint.

trouble is, by the time I've got enough hung to start painting (I'm using a Screwfix hvlp machine) they've started to flash rust.
the flash rust is also interfering with tig-ing the chain (which I'm not painting)

is there something I can dunk them in that will stop flash rusting, but not interfere with priming - or tigwelding?

Phosphoric acid will sort that out. A quick dip is enough then let it dry. It forms a black skin of iron phosphate or something. Too much and it goes white.

People forget just how high humidity is in Britain - often well over 80% - in Wales often 95%!
You could try getting a dehumidifier or just point a fan heater at them.

If there's any dampness in your shed/workshop, it'll always re-appear in my experience..

Wrap them in cling film or leave in the water for a short while.
