Running a mig welder off an electric motor

Hi guys, I'm new on here and need a little advice. I've just purchased a safmig 480 trs and was planing to run it off a generator. Is this possible? If it is can you advise me on what size generator to use? It's a 3 phase with the primary power supply being
230/400/415/440/50Hz and the maximum input current
60/35/32/31/28A. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to run my safmig 480 tots of a 3 phase 15kw 400v electric motor? I'm trying to get power to it in my garage. There's currently no power there. Thanks in advance.

Rotary converters don't like resistive loads like welders. So I'd say no. Or rather it may work but not to its full safe potential.

It's this motor. I don't think it's a rotary converter.

Without sounding negative you do not stand a chance.
3 phase from converters can be problematic just running motors, the motor linked to would need a huge >100Amp single phase supply just to start it with a well configured set up.
If you want to run a 3 phase welder without 3 phase you are going to need a big generator.

Thanks for that. You've just confirmed what I thought. I think I'll have to sell it on and buy a single phase instead.

I think realistically you need to decide on power to you shop before getting the welder. Once the power is established then get a welder time suit

Remember its a lot cheaper to buy electricity than make your own with a generator.
