Hi Guys,
I need some help/advice here.
The background is as follows:
* I am renting some space that is powered by a diesel generator. Currently a large 100kVA generator.
* Landlord was previously running two smaller generators on separate occasions.. one 10kVA and something a bit bigger.. The 10kVA broke as the oil pump stopped building pressure and it wouldn't start. The bigger one would run but stopped generating power.
* He missed a number of scheduled oil changes on both generators that are now broken.
* A former tenant and I have been using our compressors (both same) - 3HP 200 Litre Shamal, Single phase powered.
The problem:
* My landlord noticed the other evening, he was outside with generator running, when my compressor kicked in. He said the generator bogged down and sounded like it was going to cut down.
* He says I can no longer use my generator as it's "cheap chinese crap" and the startup current is too high and damaging to the generator.
My thoughts..
* I have no idea about this stuff.. but my compressor was supposed to be of reputable quality.. and his answer to everything is that everybody elses stuff is cheap chinese crap.
* After a quick read online, it would appear that compressors are indeed hard on generators as the instant demand can't be satisfied by the generator and it needs to rev up.
What do people think of this? I only have one more spraying session to do on the car and then I won't need to compressor there again as I moving out (thankfully).
But I just want to get the lay of the land.. I mean is he onto something there or what? I was always under the impression that all compressors have a hard start where there is a surge of current... cheap chinese or not..I have also done some research online and some people suggest that it might be starting under pressure if the blow off valve isn't working... but mine is. When it stops running, I hear it blow out to release piston/head pressure.
Thank you.
