Running 220 amp machine from mains

Just wondering if it's possible.I saw someone posted elsewhere that they use a 30 amp trailing socket attached to a standard 13amp plug and plugged into their mains and worked but seems sketchy.thoughts?

You can do it, although you'll only probably get around 150A, any higher and the fuse will blow/trip...

What you described is exactly the same as just fitting a 13A plug - the only bonus is the wires might be easier to put in a bigger plug...

Now I can of slap myself in the face.I don't want to have to get anything rewired to 30amps or so in the house so trying to figure a SAFE way to run a larger ampage machine off the mains....even maybe have a 30 amp extension lead with a fuse to cater would this work at all or as the mains itself only allows about 13-15am before fuse blows an extension would be pointless?

Ermm... A 13A socket is only rated for 13A. If you want a bigger supply you could potentially run from the cooker point, 30 or 32A, along a extension rated for 32A, but you can't draw any more from a standard socket.

Cheers bud was kinda wondering after seeing a previous comment.It didn't just click with me.And saying that the house win renting in has crap problems already I.e have tv and sky tv box on, then stick on the oven and a kettle and fuse can trip.For a person whom is renting and doesn't wanna mess with the electric supply to much any recommendations?

An extension as you described won't allow more current, it's still plugged in with a 13A plug.

If you only have 13A sockets, you can only run 13A.

Difficult to have even just one socket in the house converted to a 30amp? Say for example a spare socket not in use in the kitchen and will easily let me stretch outside

House sockets are on a ring main usually 30 amp its only the plug fuse is 13 amp

Replace the fuse and don't turn it up that high again.

u forgot to mention/ if theres a cooker connected to it u cant take a feed from it. the cooker would have a total loading of about 14kw on it allowing for diversity a lot less in use u could only take from it if its not connected to anything else

No they're not.

A 'standard' ring main is 32A.

But, it relies on both sides of the ring to carry 32A within the rating of the (2.5mm usually) cabling.

Not a great idea to rip off a faceplate and bung on a bigger socket.

Sorry I was 2 amp out/ideally you need a dedicated 32 amp supply from the fuse box

if u have a cartridge fuse or a rewirable it will be 30amp not 32 mcb will be 32 now but the old ones wernt they were also 30 amp many moons ago
