Try one. I didn't like autos until I drove a D4 then bought a 3.6TDV8 and subsequently a 4.4TDV8. The 3.6 wasn't lacking in power but the 4.4 is noticeably more so, also cruises better with an 8spd box.

Honestly, we've had this discussion so many times (including 2 minutes ago) and she absolutely flatly refuses to have an auto.

I was determined my D3 was going to be a manual, looked at loads, specifically wanted an SE, eventually bought an auto, best decision and now wouldn't consider a D3 manual

Then the only solution is for you to buy one and drive it, eventually she might drive it and have her mind changed

tell her to flip the selector to the left and it won't change gear till you tell it too ! drive it like a triptronic you can also get an aftermarket kit to convert an earlier L322 to paddle shift like the later models . I'm toying with the idea of fitting a kit to mine .

I've converted mine to paddle shift, worth every penny - great for the 'overtake the knob in the Audi/BMW/Merc. before they realise' manoeuvre... Left foot braking is also a good way of stealing pole position at the lights, there's no delay in going from brake to throttle

oh dear! I was the same - now I have 2 autos - the L322 and the S5. Both very different but not sure I'd go back to manual now. takes a bit of getting used to offroad but very soon slipping the lever over to manual becomes second nature. Good luck with the fight!

Sounds like it could be voltage related. Ive taken to leaving my hawkeye in the car, as the three amigos have been pinging on recently, going over speed bumps. Still love it though, its just had a tidy for the local steam rally next weekend
