One of my favourite quotes: "Copyright died with the birth of the Internet".
It bears a bit of explanation as I see at least one other doesn't understand. Royalty Free means that there are no fees payable to the artist or author. Every piece of music was written by someone or performed by someone, for which they can get paid. These are "Royalties", when your piece gets played you get a small amount of money (very small it turns out, the publishers or PRS get first) and at the end of the year you get your royalties cheque. It is how many musicians earn their living.
Royalty Free means no fees are payable so someone, anyone can use that piece of music commercially or for broadcast and not have to pay the artist. (yes I know, it is far more complicated than that, I am keeping it simple).
Just downloading an MP3 and playing it for yourself is something completely different, Napster anyone?
One of the best ways to "get music" for your own public use is get a local artist to record it for you and pay them for doing it, it keeps grass roots music alive.

Educate me please. Copyright and royalties to the composer and performing rights and royalties to the performer.
I'm sure I read/heard/told by a bloke down the pub that the copyright owner of Happy Birthday has been known to pursue performers for Royalties?
'Classical' pieces seem to be played by all and sundry so is there a 100year life or something on the composer's copyright? So paying a musician for the rights to his performance of a copyright-free piece is the way to go?
Pay the local Town Band to play The Prince of Denmark's March, buy the performing rights from them and you can add it your videos?
