Wish someone would tell the LA around here. Ploughing millions into renovating the high streets no one wants to visitReading this thread it does surprise me that it seems nobody saw any of this coming. Chatting with the Postie the other day and he said it’s complete carnage out there. Amazon driver said much the same when he delivered at 10 pm one night last week.
The thing is, the high street is dying/dead, it has been for years. First it was the out of town precincts and then Amazon. Ebay is another thing which wasn’t a massive threat due to the lack of immediacy but attitudes are changing to that. People will wait for delivery now if it means they don’t have to go out, no fuel cost, no parking cost, no jostling round a crowded town centre, just a delivery charge.
Then C-19 came along and suddenly there was no high street beyond groceries. And guess what, people got used to it. My nextdoor neighbour said a few weeks back that he only needs Amazon, Ebay and Tesco now. Now people know this, there will be no going back and IMO this works fine for the various government departments both central and local. It’s a decent excuse to finally lance the boil that was the dying high street.
The best business for the future from what I can see will be parcel couriers and making vans for them to use. This will only go one way now, and people will increase online shopping from here onwards. Why would anyone do anything else?
