This is the story of the yellow SD1 we have at work, my boss is driving it to Portugal on Sunday via Santander port.

The chap was absolutely lovely that owns it and told us the same take about how he not only built it but found his favourite car again

I expected it to be a twin plenum but checked the dates and the twin plenum came later.

Love a good sd1. Our bosses mate, Charlie broomfield has one with a 27 litre rover meteor engine in it and it’s awesome

interesting, still got a VM 2.4 Turbo engine in the barn from the diesel engined version.

Yep it’s a 1 or 1 car sounds great on straight pipes

But not as good as that! I always thought that was a tank engine. Iv seen and heard it a few times and it’s a bonkers conversion

Yep, shares the same liners, pistons, rods and blocks as the merlin, crankcase and crank are different as the meteor drives a gear case for auxiliaries.

I believe he’s looking at supercharging it at the moment! Also running merlin cams , we modified them to fit

That’s going to sound even better than it does now but with more flames I hope

I had an sd1 Vitesse twin plenum C reg. Loved it. I was only 19 at the time. I spent £2000 on a full race suspension set up. Never driven anything since to compare. Lower than the old mini and wider than a Range Rover.

@fizzy was the suspension from a jag modified to fit? I knew someone that had that on there’s

It is very much of interest. I'm fairly sure I know that car and if it's the one I think it is then I've driven it!

It belonged to a chap in Holland who was a member of the Rover SD1 Club (I did a spell as Chairman and Magazine Editor back in the late 90's early 2000's) and on a trip over there he gave me the keys.

I believe the chap has passed on because I've had a few letters from DVLA recently in connection with cars he used to own (he had in excess of 20 of them!) and he used my address in the UK to keep some of them UK registered.

I don't remember too much about the car except it being noisy and bloody quick. Oh yes, and cutting my hand on the inside of the drivers door closing it!
