Rough paint finish with turbine sprayer

Ok so im trying to do some restoration work I bought a used apollo 1500 3 stage sprayer I have a 0.8 pin .
so I sprayed up with primer the first part which was ok came up a little rough but with dome 600 grit it smoothed out no prob so after waiting for the primer to cure I layed down my base coat 2-3 light coats followed by 3-4 heavier coats but im left with a very rough surface im thining the paint on a 1 to 1 ratio as instructed on tin but it just wont lay smooth and when I try to flatten it needs so much work I end up going through the base onto the primer.
Any clues on what im doing wrong I know guys have had better luck with these units so there must be a way.

we need i bit more info. it could be the paint is too thick. applied too dry, insufficient air to product, too hot, blocked gun....................

What info do you need ? its cellulose paint decent base coat thinner im outside other then that I dont know what to say

If you are using basecoat thinner with cellulose that won't help as it flashes very quick and takes a lot of stirring to get mixed consistently.

You should be using high gloss thinner with cellulose and it probably also needs to be anti bloom in this weather.

Not used a turbine system before but 0.8mm sounds too small which will mean you have to move pretty slowly to get a good laydown.

my mistake I just checks and its top coat thinner if that makes a difference

you usually thin celly 50 50 which I have just seen you have done, you may not be putting it on wet enough or have enough flow

admitatly I used up the rest of the paint today and adjusted the volume spray to more and it layed it on pretty thick it maybe a case that as you say not enough flow and another couple thick coats would do the job.

Also im not using 0.8mm im using 1.4mm my bad I got them back to front.

it shouldn't be going on like that in the first place and any subsequent coats will just follow the pattern already there ie it will stay rough

from that picture it looks like the paint could be too thick for the gun its almost as if its started to dry before its had chance to flow out, paint that is thinned ok but applied to thickly doesn't look like that

ok it was drying very quickly by the time id layed a coat all over it had dried 90% maybe when I make another attempt il try a 60/40 thinner paint mix and see what happens.
Its a pain I cant get a compressor but I dont have the space and turbines dont kick out the same sort of pressure.

I think that's your best option, get a piece of scrap to try it on, you should be able to put a wet shiny smooth coat on
