Hi Dave.Looks like someone put a pin spanner in the holes and swung on it without taking out the (second?) grubscrew... You've probably worked out what it does (pulls the table and wormwheel together), can you turn another up, or in desperation silver solder the crack?

Hi Dave.
yes pulls the table down onto the base by the looks of it.
do these need oil or grease between the male and female V?
I’ll probably take some dimensions and have a new one made. I bet it’s an imperial thread.
These have the grease nipple type but I bet they’re for oil. I’ve got some ISO 68 I’ll try that first. All four of mine have ball oilers (ooer Mrs...), I squirt a bit of ISO 100 (cos that's what my lathe gearboxes take) in every time I remember.

It’s been welded before both sides and cracked. Could be made of anything, something that goes brittle/hard.Another option: redrill and tap for the two grub screws 60 degrees around to their current position. Weld up the old hole(s) making sure no weld goes past the major diameter of the internal thread. Very basic tools needed: could be done in a drill press using a vice. Scribe a diameter line on it and set it vertical with a square.
...Fairly easy to make a new one...
You’re right, it is quite thin, I don’t think there’s any space constraint stopping me from making the lock ring a bit thicker.Maybe consider more grub screws (3 or 4) of a smaller diameter in the new piece. You can see the piece better than me but the wall between the current grub screw thread and the edge of the piece looks quite thin and has possibly contributed to its downfall.
The problem isn’t the crack In the lock ring, it’s that a grub screw now won’t secure the lock ring which sets the preload between the table and the base.make a collar and band it
drop em off round my grottoIt’s been welded before both sides and cracked. Could be made of anything, something that goes brittle/hard.
Fairly easy to make a new one. Just threading it that will be the hard part.
Here is the indexing head. No idea of make or quality or even if it’s all there.
Maybe one of the many guru’s on here will know.
Again haven’t given anything for it yet.
