Rotary positioner

What size positioner do you need for this job? Thought about hiring one?

A 10kg would "do" the job, it's 4-5" diameter rollers around 400mm long.

but I want the flexibility of a 100kg+ unit with low and high speed capability, and I like the idea that "having" one in my shop will bring jobs in. 0.1-3rpm gives flexibility from 20mm to over 600mm diameter, even if i never have a job that needs it... If I buy or make a machine, that's my basic spec.

Had a price back for a ProArc 100kg brand new and it's not all that bad tbf. £1400 inc VAT. Still couldn't justify it unless I get a good size order of rollers, and last time there was only 10 to do not even worth hiring one for.

IIRC 120 amps. I'll bear it in mind when the job comes around again, thanks, but I'm still going to want a bigger machine as a jack-of-all-trades for longer term

I know who made it but I cant remember his name. His firm also made column and booms for sub arc....I can see his face but his name has gone...........he died about 15 years ago
His firm closed not long after.
That green paint was their trade mark.

The one I built using the same motor/g/box and VFD, I sold you can take well over 150kg.
Me and a mate stood on the patter. It would still run from full speed 4rpm to so slow you didnt know you were turning round.

Yeah I’ve had it all setup and running just never got round to making the rest of the positioner.

Dead easy to make. No need for all this tilting malarkey, simple box frame. If I need to work at an angle I just clamp/prop it to something.

So i sold this rotary table on FB last night.

Shame, it would have been a cool project, but I was fast losing interest when I realised the gearing wasn't fast enough for my needs. I really wasn't ready to start hacking into it or getting pieces machined to alter it all.

The money from this will be kept for either a bought one, or possibly buy some more suitable parts.

I think 3k is the going rate for a decent 250kg+ positoner now.

I bought another table... this one much smaller.
Manual 15" Archdale milling table. 90:1 reduction.



I wonder if I'll get anywhere with this one, now...
