well anyroadup, ill re do the wheels properly next year when i do the respray of the body but for now, having spent a ridiculous amount of time fannying about with fine line masking, decided to give it up as a bad job and try hand painting which i did with some black lechler epoxy as it will dry satin and went from this

My 1600 E had chrome rostyles on it, would they have been bought off the shelf or done privately.

Hi, ROstyles on 1600E were a factory fit. The early ones were all chrome, the middle years were chrome centres silver paint rims, and the later years were all silver paint finish. Austin 1800S (landcrab) also had ROstyle wheels. Hillman Hunter GLS and Sunbeam Rapier had them as well.

Thanks for the info, my 1600e was one of the very late ones so its had a wheel swop at some time, the spare was also chrome.

Heres my mums old car. I persuaded her that she needed it, when she wanted a new car back in 1968. I loved that car! It was a babe magnet!

Anyway, back on topic. Chrome wheels with satin black, same as the grill.

well spill the beans then. shot blasted etch primed basecoat ect ect ??

these were shot blasted and etch primed, i painted the silver first, then painted the black. after painting the silver i'd suggest using 2" wide masking tape (i used 1") and cut around with a stanley knife blade, i'd ordered some 3m fine line tape thinking it would go around the corners and it'd appear they were too sharp for it, so went with the masking tape/blade back up plan
