A mate of mine has asked me to fix some dents on the roof of his car.
Long story short, his bonnet flipped up and stuck the roof. It was a fibreglass bonnet so the damage was limited but its left two 2 dents (1 inch long / 1/32 inch wide ) in the leading edge of the roof (where it meets the windscreen).
So I need to tap the dents out as best as possibly before it can be perfected with filler. Issue is there is literally no access to the back of the panel due to a reinforcing skin (maybe a fingers width).
Can anyone suggest how best to proceed? I was going to see if I can get some steel bar in between the panels, so I can use that as a dolly – anyone have a better idea?
On another note – the dents form a valley in the panel but the sides of the valley are raised up. Am I right in thinking I need to tap these raised sections down to lift the lower area? Should I use a hammer or a slapper (would have to improvise)
Paint damage is not an issue as the cars being painted.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
James
