I think it’s two, but will check. I’ve emailed Ronseal with a pic and they’ve asked for more details. The paint can says ok for rough or smooth wood,

Big thick soft brush is best for ship lap, not normal paint brush
That stuff does very little to increase the life of your wood, it's purely cosmetic, like most water based shed/fence paint. As the bloke in my local trade paint shop said, 'make a pot of strong tea and paint that on, it will give you the same protection! '
They usually have poor coverage and are prone to separate in the tin if they get any frost. They don't last either, I would be amazed of that stuff lasts its claimed 5 years.
It's getting increasingly hard to buy oil based fence paint but it is still available, albeit quite expensive. But the extra few £ is worth it.
There is a wooden fence on our garden and it has been nearly 10 years since I last painted it. I used a good quality oil based cuprinol fence paint and the fence still looks good.
There have been mumblings about changing the colour but the stuff I used is no longer available. It will get a wash and I'll go from there.

As I understand it the coloured fence washes are wax based so they help keep water out of the wood, who remembers the 90's tv ad with a bunch of daff's dropped in a tub brown fence goop? I used some blue (I know I know it was the 90's) still blue with green algae tint when it fell to bits.
If you want to preserve wood there's some clear stuff you can put on first, £35 a can in 2022 doesn't smell much. Enough for a 10x8 shed, but stupid money for fencing. Can says you have to remove coloured coatings before applying so a little too late now.

After a bit of back and forth with Ronseal enquiries, they have “confirmed it’s not a product fault”. On the first coat, it’s normal for it to look patchy and uneven, and 3-4 coats will be needed for full coverage/colour.
