That is my favourite - what an engine - shame it had so many problems in it's early days - the last of them were incredible

as an interesting side point to all this, the merlin in the video above is responsible for my career change now. ive always been into engines, weve had tractors, landrovers cars etc around since my earliest memories, however when i was around 12/13, i saw that merlin running at a show, and fell in love with it, and it spawned an interest in aviation, and in particular aviation engines. i served my time as a sheet metal worker because to be honest, in a town like barrow you take what you can, but a couple of years ago, when i had a bit of a wobble and decided i needed a career change, aeronautics was where i headed. strangely, this led me, quite accidentally to meeting my boss, peter, and ending up working on merlins.
yesterday was the first time ive run a merlin, and it was the very engine that changed everything for me. it was quite overwhelming, but i havent stopped smiling yet. funny where life takes you.....

My Grandad had little bits of one in his shed for years. He worked on the testbeds for Napier during the war.

20-25k will get you a ground running merlin ready to show. i dont think theres any napiers running, at least i havent heard of one, and i would imagine a griffon would be the same sort of money as a merlin

That will be the gearbox output bearing had to do mine at 10000miles was fitted wrong way round
Less than I thought but still more than I can justify. I wonder what parts supply is like? Perhaps buy a tatty one and restore. They used to be very popular in tractor pulling.

Just sold mine for 3k but it went to a good home guy has a centurion but they going to build a car with my unit very knowledgeable chap
