I can only imagine quite large, I haven't seen it yet! There is a guy running one in a Rover SD1 though

I remember reading about this build about at least 20 years ago...ime sure he was running a Merlin in it

I saw the car at a show a long time ago, I seem to remember the windscreen was Lexan as it had a cutout to clear the rear of the rocker covers. Engine at the time was a Meteor from a tank.

Hi, It was John Dodd back in the 70s who used a Merlin engine in a purpose built car. He ended up being taken to court over the use of a Rolls Royce grille and losing, he had to re-model the front.

just dug mine out the shed its a late meteor with the roller rockers had to rebuild the starter ready to fire up now oh it was made by rover

had to replace a bearing skim the commutator and make brushes modded makita ones planetary gears were ok was supposed to be nos corrosion damaged all working good now

naw it was rebuilt at prestwick in the early 70s they always painted the engines yellow it was last used in a tank in germany on initial fire up i couldnt see for smoke i stripped it down and found stuck rings on one piston ,spares are plentiful from a military dealer in jersey they can supply any thing from a nut to a new crated engine one set of rings cost me 160 quid btw lucky every other ones were ok

Paul Jameson, the bloke who built the rolling chassis of the yellow car, lived near me. I seem to remember John Dodd had a workshop in
Epsom, John Dodd Transmissions I think it was? Someone told me Paul had intended on having a stretched mk1 tina body on it!

Paul Jameson did build another car, but with a merlin. it was 6 wheeled mid engined thing. He used to turn up at village events in it.
With 12 zoomies poking out the top it sounded and looked like a spit when it was starting.

not many cars runnin a proper merlin because the carbs and starter all hang down and make it impossibly tall ,and you need to remove the prop reduction gears and most run backwards compared to a tank engine ,the meteor not easy either as there is no external flywheel just an internal spline and at max revs of 2250 you looking at a bus or lorry transmission to get the gearing high enough

i will video mine running soon on the open manifolds its all ready just need batteries charged ,been 3 years since last run but have barred it over regularly
i use one magneto as a distributer run off one of the batteries with an external coil so i get a stronger spark at cranking speed and i can run one ignition system or two ,i converted the filter to a new holland tractor spin on type manifolds ,oil tank home made ss ,radiator from Komatsu earthmover with stainless trim
its being sold to a tank enthusiast soon
