Rollering 2k lacquer

I've been reading the safety aspect of 2k paint for the diy-er and the pros and cons of 2k compared to 1k celly and so on. My understanding is that unless you have a proper air fed mask it's not a risk worth taking. At the same time I don't think there is anything that compares to 2k durability, what did come to mind is that what if the base is sprayed on as normal and the lacquer which has all the nasties in it is rollered on, there will be no spray so less to actually inhale and I suppose you can also use a cartridge mask for added safety the finish of the lacquer won't need to be perfect since it's going to be cut and polished, what do you think?

its the air borne content that causes the health risk so rolling it on would be safe, however I cant see the finish being good at all and whether you could actually flat it back and polish it I don't know but I can imagine it to be a lot of work.

maybe brush a small bracket or something but not a car

Yes it will work but you will need a good few coats if you intend to flat & polish without breaking through. It's just not the done thing.
If using a roller you will need to add extra thinner for it to flow out.
It's quite normal to roller primer and it's surprising how good a finish you can achieve

I wouldn't attempt it, the problem is that the basecoat will be softened by the clear and unless you are hugely lucky will squirm around under the clear and make a mess. I tried brushing clear on metallic basecoat (was too small a patch to justify getting gun out) and it was a disaster, can't see rollering being much better.

Rollering primer is fine as it is usually only metal underneath or paint that it matters not if it gets swirly effects in as it will be sanded and covered.

I left the basecoat to dry for 3hrs then light coat of clear, wait for it to flash for about 1/2hr then on with next coats, no problem.
