Quick one, Can I use tig rods for brazing, using an oxy acetylene touch? I would be in a 'oh bugger, I've run out of proper rods,' type of thing. Thanks all.

Do you mean gas welding, rather than brazing?

If you mean something like sif 8 or 968 with gas I would have thought so, as long as the flux works with it which I have no idea about. I still have the old paper sif handout for sif8 it might well say.

That's because of the zinc in the brazing rods.

Sif8 & 968 aren't listed in brazing rods but in copper alloys.
Sif 8 & 968 don't have zinc so are OK with tig.
In the product catalogue Sif 8 has a dot in the tig and gas process list.
The reason for no dot under mig process is a separate listing for Mig 8[Sif 8 wire].
968 is listed the same as above.

So I would assume bother work fine with gas.

If you get stuck you can gas weld with wire coat hangers (done it often), tig rods will be fine.
