So after letting my first welder sit in the garage for a month or two, today I finally got some hobbyweld 5 and had a mess about.
Bearing in mind this is the first time I've ever held a welding torch in my hand ever, I'm taking the fact I only made one hole as a success
Observations I've made:
This was done on the floor. I found it really uncomfortable and difficult to get into a position to keep my travel speed and torch angle consistent. I think getting some sort of bench to work on will greatly improve my weld quality.
The sooty deposits are sometimes pushed off to one side of the weld - again I think this is down to poor torch position and possibly not enough gas (I think I had it set to about 5lpm?)
Machine is a Clarke 151en, using the Clarke .8mm wire.
Any tips, advice, critique?... Be as mean as ya like...I've gotta learn
