Bernie Ecclestone had offered to completely fund a London Grand Prix. Even with this new ruling the London Mayor has said he wouldn't recommend anything until they reduce the emissions from the cars . With the geography of the city it would make an amazing race.

I loved going to the closed tarmac road rallies run in Scotland and the Isle of Man, even remember the Birmingham super prix in 86.

its on the mountain track that can be easily closed off without affecting residents as no one lives there and it doesn't affect local traffic

You've always been able to run speed events on the road - you just needed an Act of Parliament to suspend the speed limit. Which is why it took the organising club 10yrs to get the Jim Clark Rally running. Just be easier to sort out now.

Because of that, I've wondered about the cycle races - the tour de France and now the Tour de Yorkshire have passed though my town, and down the hill into it I reckon they exceed the 30 limit easily. Bugged me that it was present as a fiat accompli that it was coming through - no-one asked. Does mean the road got repair though ;-) The Tour de Yorkshire is going up my back road commuting route at the end of the month - for 15 years it's been a pot-hole mess, but in the last week or two it's turned smooth ;-)

With all the emissions restrictions in and around London i think all we will ever get to see is Formula E.

Can't help but think disallowing motorsport in London would be cutting their nose off to spite their face, how much money will it bring in?

Yes I've been there and seen it a few times, but there are other areas in the uk with similar roads. I was just wondering how come Scarborough ended up as the only one on the mainland to hold regular events.

Motorcycle racing was held on New Brighton promenade for many years, sprints at Blackpool prom and Brighton Speed Trials on public roads. Did hear Liverpool were looking at F1, but I don't believe they could afford it anyway. Greeves 246

Shhh... don't tell everybody or you'll spoil it for those of us that live here, you can tell it's Bank Holiday weekend, Pwllheli traffic is horrendous but if you avoid that bottleneck it's okay.

Motorcycle racing was held on New Brighton promenade

and rallies at the prom, was at one last year.
OLLY MOUNT is a privately owned road and so is newbrighton prom, allways has been a race circuit for bikes and rac rally for as long as I can remember.
HA I remember the rallies used it the opposite way and we were spectating at the hairpin we could hear the stratos coming but with an added cheer------then into view first came a hare head down **** up and running down hill at about 70mph, each stride was about 2 meters, closely followed by the stratos!! now the hare's brakes weren't as good at the stratos and it couldnt make the hairpin ( ha never thought about that HAREPIN bend ) and at the last minute it leapt at human shoulder height over the bales and through the speccies actually using their shoulders to accelerate and it carried on down the road and into the trees!! speccies on the outside of bends, ha NOT NOW.

We used to use roads up in the northeast, scotish borders ----jim clarke territory for rallies but I think they were maybe privately owned too, they were used until 2014 and few people were killed that year. and it was banned since.
