road legal buggy IVA/SVA concerns

seeing as the winter is fast approaching a mate has been looking into building a rage style 2 seat buggy with a bike engine,

has anyone recently done an IVA or SVA?
how much is the cost and any issues to address whilst building it?
he very clearly aims to have this as a road legal buggy which is my concern!

Any thoughts or advice great fully received

IVA test costs £450, registration fee is £60 and road tax is based on engine size. Go to a car site like locostbuilders to see what is needed for a pass and do some research for your mate or tell him to do his own into lighting positions, braking requirements and edge radius and projections. Look at Freestyle or Blitz buggies for ideas but it will be a long process and cost a lot of money to complete.

he came over for dinner tonight and doesnt think its gonna be that easy as he hoped, im gonna look into it a bit further as i know a few mates in the kit car world, just thought id ask here first, was that a very recent IVA cost pedro? i found one earlier today stating £199 but thought that seemed a little cheap

Third one down is a .pdf of the costs. Your car will cost £450 if it falls in the up to 8 passenger bracket, they don't do special offers at £199 that is for something completely different plus if it fails first time a re-inspection will cost £90. You can find all this out on the .gov site. We all had it to do at one point when building cars so tell your mate to get digging on the computer and find out some costs for himself before he starts throwing money away then blames you for not finishing it.

im gonna leave him til after the weekend to make his mind up as like you say i dont wanna have my time taken up doing this to throw half the project away,
