I have a female RJ45 on a Ubiquiti M5 WIFI transmitter. This RJ45 receives both power and data via POE. Its 24V 2 pair POE. Its a brand new albeit homemade CAT 6 cable, distance 4m from POE injector to transmitter.
Its difficult to get the ethernet cable (male RJ45) to mate with the pins on the Ubiquiti transmitter, (female RJ45) I suspect corrosion on the female RJ45 port. I can see discolouration. With the male end of the cable correctly inserted into the M5 transmitter jiggling cable ends left right and up down doesn't make the connection work. To make the connection work its a matter of sliding it in and out until it makes continuously. At every slide in the power lights on the transmitter flash for an instant and then they drop off. After sliding in and out for a while the connection seems to make, if anything it seems to make before the cable is slotted "home" and then when the male cable is pushed into position the connection stays made.
As I say the male connection is new indeed i have replaced it 3times, The cable tester says all is good. Using pass through crimps I got from electrical wholesaler, same crimps he sells to everyone. Have made a good few ethernet cables for this WIFI project, this is the only one I have issues with.
After I get a connection it works perfectly, both power and data, UNTIL I kill power to the POE injector. Then the RJ45 connection between cable and transmitter loses connection and sliding in and out as outlined above has to be repeated to get a connection. I wait 30seconds after killing the power to begin the reconnection process to allow everything to discharge.
I have tested the LAN cable with cable tester and indeed replaced the RJ45 end on the cable 3times. Always the same, cable tester says my crimps are perfect. Its outdoor cable hence I didn't use a premade cable.
Any ideas on how to clean the pins on the ports on the Ubiquiti M5 female port.
