so the issue i got is
the back panel inside my oven, the holes that the element/fan cover screws into, has rusted slightly and the course screws no longer fit.

think the largest hole is now about 7mm. and i cant find any course, thick self tappers that will fit.

so im left with will Rivnuts work.... bear in mind its inside an oven that will get hot too maybe 200*c

i see they come in two different types. aluminium and coated steel..

so im wondering if i drill holes out to take a Rivnut and secure the cover with some stainless steel bolts

would save me from having to buy a new oven that hardly gets used. due to air fryers and AF oven.

anyone got any kits and what's your thoughts....

I wouldn't use stainless into aluminium - while it will of course be dried out, at some points of cooking, there is steam in there - and stainless into aluminium quite often leads to galvanic corrosion.

Is it possible to re-drill the cover and the oven so the screws go into sound metal? Becareful of anything behind the oven panel!

Have you thought about a Stainless pop rivet?
Personally I would use a Riv nut as I see it as the best permanent solution but someone may know of another more suitable fixing?

You can get stainless steel rivnuts from temu and Aliexpress. I got some M8 ones recently for a garden sprayer fix. I have used the tool and rivnuts more than I thought I would. A handy tool to have. Bought an air tool when I had some big ones to do.

I had exactly the same issue with the grill element in our oven.
A rivnut was my first choice but the rust around the hole had spread about 10mm so that was a non-starter.
Instead I cut a small strip of ally, drilled it and inserted a 20mm M5 bolt and tightened a nut to leave a protruding stud.
This was pop riveted to the ceiling of the grill and the element secured with another couple of nuts. Washers too of course!

A small square of metal with a suitable hole in the middle, at the back of the panel. Drop of https://ovendoorglue.co.uk/ on the back and nip the original screw up.

why even bother if its something you do not use

its not something that is used everyday. due to the air fryers etc.
but its something that would be used when you have something to cook that is too big or messy for the air fryers.
hence why im trying to fix then replace.

hmm yer that is one way i guess thou the cover plate does rest against the back cover,
but if they was kept inside the cover then that would work. but im hoping a rivnut will work, as that will be a easier and quicker fix

yer i dont want to use the aluminium ones. but it seems that all the kits come with them, and not steel ones. or i just aint found a kit yet that has steel ones.
no the cover has to go in that place as it surrounds the element and fan

There looks to be plenty of metal there to drill new holes ie move the screws somewhere else in the cover and drill new holes in the oven. Would need a washer or two as spacers, but . .

Bearing in mind the name of this forum . . . a quick tack weld in the holes to close 'em up a bit to give the existing screws something to bite against?

Any rivnuts will withstand 200c fine.
I use steel or stainless steel ones for repairing catering equipment although plenty of the oem ones are actually aluminium.
I avoid aluminium ones as they tend to either fuzz up or streak which is not ideal on food equipment. I'd be happy enough to use allloy ones on my own cooker though.

I've got plenty of m5 steel rivnuts if you want any? Probably got a gun for them as well..

just move the panel a quarter of an inch in any direction that works , even rotate it , and drill fresh holes and use the self tappers again.

ild sooner try with rivnuts first and keep the same holes in the cover.
also as the holes are rusty, trying to weld them up a bit im sure would make the holes bigger for me anyway. im not the lucky lol

im not sure how much spare room there is every way, and dont want the element touching the cover, but that is something i could look at if the rivnut way doesnt work.

i dont know what size rivnuts need what size hole ? as i not own a set.
but i have been looking to try find a good kit with steel nuts not aluminium ones. and happy to buy a kit as im sure it will come in handy elsewhere too on other things.

I bought the tool last week or two from my Local Lild but its a bigger store as not all stores stock all products.
Just been in a Lidl Outside Edinburgh, no rivet tools but they had one Plasma cutter

yer would be just easier for me to get it off amazon, then hunt for a lidl that has one.
