am i missing the point .are u taking about burning the heads of with oxy acet burning torch ??if so it would take a lot more than 3 seconds to heat it up before it would cut

With the torch set right its no problem because the shape of the rivet head is domed the edge is only thin you can start cutting straight away, But then again who am i to know as ive only done a hundred thousand or so of them.

If you go down the rivet buster route, you can get punches to fit too, which will allow the rivets to be punched out once the heads are knocked off.
