im currently doing a job that requires the removal of hundreds of big iron rivits, does anyone have some good tips on how to do this quickly

We drill them out of chassis's at work (were not allowed to use heat) mag drills the best and quickest. Air chisels dont touch the ones i've tried.

It tends to be a bit awkward with a mag drill if there is a couple of rows.Might need to make up a little bridge that can be clamped on. Smaller ones will come out with a decent hand drill.
Gas is alright, but easy to damage the surroundings.

How big are they? Just recently I have been doing a job where we have been using a tool called a rivet buster. It's a hand-held air breaker with a special hardened chisel for breaking off rivet heads (though that wasn't what we used it for). This tool would cut the heads off inch and a quarter shank iron bolts in about 30 seconds.

Me too, I made my patio out of scrap from work. The front with the rivets in is made from bits of wagon chassis.

A rivet buster would knock them heads off inside of 10 seconds each.

Maybe so, But i can wash the heads off cleanly with the bottles in about 3 seconds and can still hear and wont have white finger but each to there own

The washing the heads off is the easy bit, Its the knocking them out that's a pain as there so tight in the holes they "PICK UP" as your Thwacking at em.

Oh right - something a rivet buster could do with ease if the chisel would fit through. We were knocking the heads off bolts and then knocking the bolts out that had been in just over 100yrs. No oxy-fuel allowed on site so it was the only option.
To be honest, my hat is right off to you if you can blow off rivet heads at a rate of 20 a minute. I couldn't do that or even at the rate of one in 10secs - you must have done thousands to get it down that quick.

am i missing the point .are u taking about burning the heads of with oxy acet burning torch ??if so it would take a lot more than 3 seconds to heat it up before it would cutMaybe so, But i can wash the heads off cleanly with the bottles in about 3 seconds and can still hear and wont have white finger but each to there own
