Rigid hydraulic pipes

It's a bit of an art getting the bends in the right place; we have a lot of galvy steel pipe on the deck cranes and whoever did the bending got it spot on as it's a wonder to behold the symmetry, unlike the bandit who did the piping for the compressors, which has more wobbles than a basket of snakes. After the pipe virtuoso finished the bodgers were let loose, and the treadplate assembly that goes over the pipe run fits where it touches and goes on and off with the aid of a sledge hammer.

Pirtek used to do them, at least my local one did, but that was a few years back now (haven't used them for some time so things could well have changed). Worth seeing if there's one nearby though.

If you need quick release couplers to be held fixed why not use a bulkhead fitting and attach a simple bracket to hold it secure? Might be easier than trying to sort out steel pipes.

Pirtek up here just do flexible hoses bill, certainly don't do complex steel pipes

As I said one bend is easy, 3 and 4 in the same length of pipe in different planes and angles is an entirely different thing.
I get a kick out it lol....

Bill I just want it back as it was meant to be originally , which was a rigid pipe held securely with 2 clamps (stauff rings a bell ?)
The flexi hose the chimps bodged on is too long and flaps about like a limp you know what !
I just want a good solid fixed pipe I can push the quick connect onto .

Whoever did the paint feed pipework in our paintshop was skilled, 12-15 pipes running perfectly parallel as they follow the contours and corners of the booths above.

Lots of folk in the glasgow area here do the flexible pipes but few are skilled pipe fitters to a level where they can rigidedably pipe a machine using multiple complex bends as I have achieved. Not saying I am brilliant or anything only that it requires a special skill set and commitment above and beyond. I am time served marine engineer and pipe fitter so it just happens to be my forte....

the first pipe is easy,
its the second, third and fourth beside it that makes it trickier eh..
i wouldnt pipe much stuff in steel pipe now altho id have done it with a previous company i used to work with but its a job i dont mind all the same, there is something about it.
one of the benders i have is a parker hand ball one, it makes lovely bends in 10&12mm pipe.

This lot was a run of about 25' or so, 16' along the boat deck from the doghouse for the powerpack with a dogleg around the davit made of 4 90 bends left/right then another 90 upward to the control position on the bridge deck, virtuoso man even got the inline couplings staggered so they made a diagonal line rather than the usual straggly mess. It spoke of pride in his work and OCD in equal measure. I'm not on that boat anymore but I think the run was half a dozen pipes or so.

The owner of the hoist in the photos did not appreciate my effort or work standard. He said the job was way too good and he just wanted rubber pipes ran thru out. I was sub contracted by my mate who wanted a decent job done in stainless. I gave him one...he was very pleased but knew the machine owner would never have any appreciation for the good work

Whilst your there Nicky is the pipe usually imperial or metric sizes , had a rough Measure of od yesterday but only had an adjustable spanner as a vernier will take my vernier to work Monday

I wonder if he will appreciate the work in the future once he starts paying for aged replacement flexible hoses?

nicky and his mate were right to do a top job and make the pipes out of stainless even tho the owner might of thought it too good for his work.

but i wouldn't run down the flexible hoses either, i use a lot of hyd stuff here and the 2 and 4 wire hyd hoses will last a long time in the same conditions.
also remember unless they used stainless swage on fittings on the flexi pipes you now have a weak link as the hose end will rust in time altho if they were wrapped in denso tape it would stop that.
but even so, there is nothing wrong with flexi hyd pipes when used in the right applications.

That was the problem with the car transporters, along with tight bends the outer hose used to crack and then let water in. Europower hoses that were orignally on were terrible, think it was the way they were made. They just blebbed up everywhere. Used to replace them with Gates hoses.

Well said, both have their place pal. I have my own 2“ swager so rattle the flexis out too. I have all the 2 wire & 4 wire hose in stock and the full range of fittings to include;
Bsp female / male
ORF female/male
Metric L female/male
Metric s female/male
Jic female / male
SAE flanges 3000 psi
SAE flanges 6000psi
Compression fittings in common sizes
Female /male adapters for all above styles of fitting.
Then I got some common steel tube sizes and my trusty Rems Curvo 110V bender
That's a alot of stock lol....

Wrapping in denso; that's company policy for hydraulic hoses, but unless you inspect regularly for corrosion(also company policy) it can fester unseen behind the sticky morass of denso, then the fitting bursts, oil goes everywhere and the skipper does the hat dance.

yes, but if wrapped right first, the chances of it leaking are pretty damn slim, or at least anything i ever wrapped i never seen it let water in anyways as id put plenty of it on the first day.

but in fairness, i dont work to a company policy here as i work for myself and Id use the common sense rule book a lot of the time.
