rewiring a grinder

just chopped through my grinder cable, and a close look reveals them to be of course double insulated and no earth wire. Can i rewire them to a normal plug? The original plug of course has the plastic bonded to the wire as it enters the bottom of the plug, so i don't think i will be able to put the original back (even it it wasn't a tad on the short side now)

yeah should be fine ,just use the same thickness cable and wire it like for like

just did a bosch one wire was so stiff you couldnt coil it up after use

Ok thanks. I was just a bit confused why in the original plug there was a fuse. even though the grinder does not even have an earth wire.

Fuse will blow if too much current is drawn from the live terminal. That could be a short to neutral, not necessarily to earth. Fuses in plugs are there to protect the cable from melting due to excess current. I would guess the grinder has a plastic body, and the way the switch and motor are arranged inside, there's no way of anything live coming into contact with any external metal bits, hence no need for an earth connection.
