If it's that old with new plugs then we are talking distributor cap damp or cracked, rotor arm caked up or ht leads damp, goose or ends not seated properly. Check them all before fiddling with fuel, as @Bryan Williams you need a spark.One of a great things with a 71yr old motor it has no sensors. It needs Fuel, Air and a spark. Of coarse all at the right time.
